Cardinals,
I hope everyone had a relaxing and restful Spring Break.
We are in the middle of TAKS testing here at Kent. Third and Fifth
Grades did a great job on their Reading TAKS with 100% of our 3rd grade
and 94% of our 5th grade passing. We are proud of their hard work.
More testing is coming up during the month of April but we are
anticipating more success.
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5 - 9. We would like to encourage you
to remember the outstanding professionals who spend so much time and
effort with your children each day. Please let our staff members know
you appreciate their efforts. A simple note or card can make their day.
Sincerely,
Debbie Williams

Great American Cleanup, Saturday, April 19, 9 am to 1 pm
Join us for the
GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP 2008 Saturday, April 19th from 9:00 am to 1:00
pm, City Hall parking lot, 1945 E. Jackson Road, Carrollton, Texas
Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup, the nation's largest
community improvement program, takes place annually from March 1 through
May 31, involving an estimated 2.8 million volunteers and attendees. The
hardworking volunteers donated more than 7.7 million hours in 2007 to
clean, beautify and improve more than 17,000 communities during more
than 30,000 events in all 50 states and beyond.
Nationally, last year's Great American Cleanup netted 200 million pounds
of litter and debris; planted 4.6 million trees, flowers and bulbs;
cleaned 178,000 miles or roads, streets and highways; and diverted more
than 70.6 million plastic (PET) bottles and more than 2.2 million scrap
tires from the waste stream.
Last year, 1069 Keep Carrollton Beautiful volunteers spent 4,840 hours
collecting 16,850 pounds of litter and debris from green belts, streets,
parks, rivers and shorelines in Carrollton. We are planning to add a
great deal to that total this year.
Keep Carrollton Beautiful educates citizens about their
responsibility in litter prevention; ways to reduce, reuse, recycle and
rebuy; and properly manage waste materials. Keep Carrollton Beautiful
also forms strategic partnerships with businesses, organizations and
individuals to beautify and improve our community. Join us!

Feed the Birds for Proposed Gift to School |
|
| |
|
Dear Kent Cardinals,
The PTA is proposing the purchase of a 2-sided LED dynamic message sign
as our gift to school this year. This would enable the school to provide
up to the minute information as needed. In order to minimize
installation costs the existing structure would be used and upgraded to
meet city requirements.
This communication tool will the entire Kent community. We are short
about $3000.00 for this upgrade to our sign. We are asking you to "Feed
the Birds" with spare change and other monetary donations. There will be
bird feeders located outside the office for your students to drop off
their donations. Please make checks payable to Kent PTA and designate it
for Gift to School. As a special thank you to our Cardinals, each child
will receive a packet of bird seed on Earth Day to help Feed the Birds!

Library Help Needed |
|
| |
|
Hi everyone,
We are in need of some people to come and volunteer in the library to
help sort the books that the kids return and to place them on the
shelves. We are very short handed and really could use you. It is a very
easy job and you can come and go as you please any day of the week. For
instance you could come in at 9:00 am and leave in half hour if you
needed to. Or if you arrive at the school early and sit in your car
waiting for school to end you could come in for 20 minutes or so. Any
time you could give would be greatly appreciated. You get easy exercise
as you squat down to put books on the shelf. If you have never done it
before Mrs. Brewer could explain it to you as it is easy as 123. I am
going to be out for a week due to surgery so Mrs. Brewer could sure use
some help and the kids benefit from this as well. If you have any
questions please feel free to call me at 972- 492-8954
Thank you very much
Denise Philipon
