Help Recognize Our Kent Volunteers
It is time to nominate a deserving parent volunteer from each grade for
the Karen Guttierrez Volunteer Award. This award has been named in
memory of Karen Guttierrez, and is given each year to one volunteer per
grade level who exemplifies the true spirit of volunteering for the
children of Kent.
Karen, a former Kent parent and volunteer, passed away in 2001 after a
brave battle with cancer. She served as our Volunteer Coordinator from
1993- 1995, devoting much time and energy to our school.
An additional parent volunteer will receive the 5th Grade Lyn Johnston
Volunteer Award, which is given to one 5th grade volunteer who has been
a dedicated volunteer at Kent and in the community. This award is named
in memory of Lyn Johnston who passed away in 2004. Lyn was Kent PTA
President from 1994- 1996, chaired various committees on the Kent PTA
Board, and was instrumental in starting Kent's volunteer program. She
also served on Blalack and Creekview PTA Boards and Council until she
passed away. Lyn was an enthusiastic teacher, volunteer, and a PTA Life
member as a result of her dedication.
The awards are based on a combination of the following:
Number or nominations received
Overall contributions at Kent
Volunteer hours logged on the School Check-In system
Please note: Texas PTA Life Members or previous recipients of the
Karen Guttierrez or Lyn Johnston Awards are not eligible to win. If you
inadvertently cast a vote for one of these people you will be notified
by the Volunteer Award Committee and given the opportunity to submit
another nomination.
Please complete the nomination form and turn in to your child's teacher
or the front office by Friday, February 22. You may also send your
nominations by e-mail if you prefer to volunteer@kentpta.org. If you
have any questions, please contact Christi Victor at 214-995-2538.
Thank you for taking the time to nominate someone for these very special
awards!

C-FB ISD Council PTA Clothes Closet |
|
|
Ruth Doocy |
|
The C-FB ISD PTA Clothes Closet is halfway through the year, but almost
out of socks & underwear, gently used clothing and money!
Kent will be doing an official clothes drive in March, but right now
if you can clean out those closets and bring in your used clothes they
would be greatly appreciated.
The next two times the clothes closet is open for clients are:
- Monday, February 18, 10:30 AM- 1:00 PM
- Thursday, March 6, 10:30 AM- 1:00 PM
Any help would be appreciated. In addition, they have a great need for
volunteers some Saturdays and Monday evenings during the next two months
to help put out all the clothes that will be donated in the next month.
Thanks!

February 27 - March 2 in the Trinity Valley Shopping Center
The C-FB ISD Council PTA book sale is Wednesday, February 27 through
Sunday, March 2 in the Trinity Valley Shopping Center. It is located at
Josey Lane and George Bush Turnpike (Target Shopping Center in former
Old Navy store) .
The C-FB ISD Educational Foundation, in partnership with the C-FB ISD
Council of PTAs, runs a gently used book sale where proceeds are used to
increase community awareness of the foundation, promote literacy in the
community and provide an additional resource of revenue for programs and
endowments.
There are several ways you can help:
You May:
- Volunteer to help before, during and after the book sale.
- Come and buy some of your favorite books. Last year, there were
80,000 books to choose from!
- Purchase "Book Sale Bucks" to give to your friends, teachers or
co-workers.
- Make a donation of $10, $15 or $25 in the name of a C-FBISD
employee for a STAR award.
If you are interested in helping at the book sale, please contact
Wende Haynie at: wendehaynie@yahoo.com.
